What I Offer

I serve parents experiencing a loss in the Ballito (KZN)  and surrounds area for losses (whether unexpected or anticipated) of a wanted pregnancy or stillbirth and extend my services down to Durban north for those choosing to continue their pregnancy journey and who would like a birth bereavement doula in attendance for the birth of their baby.

 

I will help provide you with information to enable you to make informed decisions and hold space for you so that you can make these decisions in a calm environment where you’re given time to process the magnitude of what lies ahead. I will help facilitate an intimate environment in which you can say both hello and goodbye to your baby, and create mementos and keepsakes for you to take home with you, including photographs, hand/foot prints, and clay imprints - all the while treating your baby and your family with dignity and respect, knowing that these moments will be too fleeting.

 

I offer emotional, physical and informational support whether you’re experiencing a miscarriage, stillbirth or terminal diagnosis during pregnancy. My goal is to assist you in sorting through the information provided to you by your care provider, not to contradict their medical advice, and assist in opening the lines of communication to help minimize trauma and regrets.

 

 How that support looks depends on your own unique circumstances, but I can offer assistance in the following non-medical ways:

 

  • Attending doctors' appointments with you to help you navigate the information you’re being provided

  • Provide you with resources to help you make an informed decision.

  • Provide ongoing support via WhatsApp, phone, and in-person visits

  • Hold space for you, by being completely present for your both mentally and physically without attempting to interrupt or change your journey, while you process your emotions and make your decisions

  • Assist you with preparing a birth plan and coping plan for afterwards

  • Explaining what you can expect and preparing you emotionally for meeting your baby.

  • Providing support and comfort measures while you labour and birth your baby

  • Facilitate you meeting your baby and providing various options depending on the gestation of the baby and your particular wishes which may include a welcoming ceremony, holding , swaddling, bathing & dressing baby, siblings and grandparents meeting baby.

  • Provide various mementos of your baby for your to take home

  • Provide photographs of you and your baby, your extended family meeting your baby and baby on their own

  • Assisting with planning a funeral /memorial and having the funeral home collect your baby

  • Assist with you creating a farewell ceremony for a miscarriage.

  • Post partum doula care, including advice, visits, lactation options and referrals for additional support

  • Putting you in touch with counselors and support groups.

Fees

Unexpected Outcome / Stillbirth - Pay what you can / Make a donation

If you have experienced an unexpected stillbirth I can be contacted by you, your care provider or a friend to request my services. If I am available, I will provide memory making services and if you have not had the opportunity to meet and hold your baby, I can assist in facilitating this as well. I'm typically there for 2-3 hours.

Diagnosed Fatal Outcome  - R950

This option is for if you have been diagnosed with a fatal / life-limiting outcome for your baby, requiring an early induction, and choose not to have me support during the birth, but would still like to have me provide memory making services to you and facilitate you meeting and holding your baby.  I would need to be booked upfront to ensure my availability once baby is born and notified as soon as possible after the birth to come through. I will be on standby as soon as the induction has been performed.

Birth Journey - R4500

I will provide emotional, informational and physical support whether you decided to terminate the pregnancy or continue with the pregnancy till baby chooses their birth date.

This package includes support during pregnancy, labour or c-section, and the immediate postpartum period.  You'll have access to my support via phone, email and WhatsApp for any questions you may have along the way, during your pregnancy and postpartum period, in person support to assist you in drawing up a birth plan, attending doctors appointments, doula support during birth.  In addition you'll receive a nurture box/bag, photography and memory making after the birth and post partum visits.

Pay it forward

While I do charge for my services for loss journeys,  I volunteer my services for parents experiencing an unexpected stillbirth.  In addition, I will never turn away a family in need of support who isn’t able to financially contribute. 

 

Included in my support for all families are grief journals, clay hand and foot imprints, ink prints of baby's hands and feet, baby wraps and caps, crocheted hearts for parents to take home and some other small items and printed resources for the parents comfort. 

 

There are several ways you can contribute to my services, the proceeds from all sales or donations go directly to supporting loss parents :

  • Monetary donation towards consumables and expenses

  • Donations of materials to make up baby wraps, caps, hearts, octopus. (please contact me for specifics)

  • Donations of completed crocheted items and consumables (canvases, crazy clay, alginate, plaster of paris etc)

  • Purchasing a grief journal or crocheted octopus.

  • If you’d like to contribute to my services on behalf of a family member or friend currently experiencing a loss, please contact me for an electronic printable gift card you can present to them for my services
